What did you do in high school to prepare you for this major? Tell us about your extracurricular activities and any honors/awards you received while preparing for university.

I did several extracurricular activities, including participating in a summer program hosted by a university and beach cleaning. They made me research more about environmental issues and made me realize I truly want to pursue marine biology in the future.

Activities within the IB curriculum also helped me to prepare for university, such as writing scientific reports and doing fieldwork/lab experiments by myself.

Please tell us your daily life schedule as a student with this major in your university.

When I have class at 9am, I wake up at 8am and get ready for classes. I usually have 2-3 classes a day, so between classes I study in the library, either revising lecture notes or working on assignments. I stay in the library until 5-6, and then go home to have dinner. Then I go to dance lessons since I’m in a dance club, and they usually finish at 9-10. After that, I get home and shower and go to sleep. I try not to study after 6pm.

How do you manage your stress? What's the secret?

I run and dance for fun, and moving my body in general (like going on a walk) helps me manage stress. I also bake and cook alone in the kitchen with my favorite songs on play.

What advice would you give high school students wanting to study this major?

Biology and chemistry knowledge taught in high school will be very important in this major, so revise well and try to get good results in high school. Also, extracurricular activities regarding this major will be valuable, not only because you have something to write in the personal statement, but also because you have to do extracurricular activities at university as well. Having experience in extracurricular activities will make you feel easy to start extracurricular activities or internship programs at a professional level at university.

What was the most helpful when applying to college for this major?

Having experience of extracurricular activities was most helpful since I had stuff to write about in the personal statement. Also, getting good grades and having good impressions from teachers are important because you need good grades and a recommendation letter from teachers.
